INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

MEMORIE della Società Astronomica Italiana is a professional journal devoted exclusively to the publication of Conference Proceedings and invited review papers. As a norm, review papers are published as part of issues dedicated to single specialized topics.

The typescript provided by the author will be photographically reproduced. There is no need for special paper sheets. However, the typescript must be absolutely clean and conform to the following instructions.

Type all material single-spaced on one side only of a white paper sheet within a frame of 15x22 cm. In the final reproduction the typed area will be reduced by 20%. The Font to be used for the text is Times New Roman (10 points for the text, 8 for the abstract). Arial (14 points) should be used for the title.

If you use MS Word, open the fileTEMPLATE.dot, save it in your hard disk and use it as a model for preparing your manuscript.

The first page of each contribution should include: a) The title of the paper, in capital letters, either centered or starting at the left, and with appropriate space above and below; b) the authors' name and affiliations; c) a short abstract; d) the main text to follow.

Manuscripts should not be numbered, except with a pencil on a corner. Running headlines and page numbers will be added by the publisher. For the same reason, reference to page numbers should not be made within the text.

Illustrations should be mounted within the text, with captions written immediately below them. High resolution images are to be used for illustrations. In no case large size illustrations and drawings will be reduced and mounted in the text by the publisher. Black and white photographs are accepted. Colour photographs will be printed only at the author's expenses.

It is the responsability of the author to obtain permission from the copyright holder before using material such as illustrations taken from other sources.

References should be typed following the same rules as for major astronomical journals such as Astron. Astrophys., Ap. J. or Monthly Notices. Within the text, refer to a paper giving its author(s) and year of publication in parenthesis (Black and White, 1899) or, if necessary, authors in the text and year of publication in parenthesis.

Do not forget to acknowledge your grant and all those who have helped. Are you sure that you hold copyright clearance for all the material you are using?

Each paper will start with a right (odd) page. This should be taken into account when writing the text and planning the layout of illustrations. Avoid to finish the paper with a few lines at the top of a right (odd) page.

The Editor reserves the right not to accept papers that do not conform to these instructions or that are not properly prepared in camera-ready form.
